Popular legal education topics
Consumer Law
This seminar looks at your rights as a consumer and how the law protects them. It will explore what rights consumers have when purchasing goods and services, private sales, buying on credit and door to door sales.
The session also covers consumer rights and remedies when things go wrong.
Wills & Powers Of Attorney
This two-part seminar covers wills and powers of attorney. This seminar covers what’s needed to make a valid will, what you can include in it, how to update or change it, and what happens if someone dies without a will. We’ll also discuss how wills can be challenged in court. We will also examine what a power of attorney is, when and why you might need one, how to appoint an attorney, and the legal responsibilities of someone acting on your behalf. We’ll also talk about what happens if no power of attorney is in place.
Employment Law
This seminar covers the different types of employment (permanent, fixed-term, and casual) and the minimum entitlements you are guaranteed under the law, such as wages, leave, and breaks. We’ll also explain what should be included in an employment agreement, your responsibilities as an employee, and what steps you can take if problems arise with your employer.
Traffic / Police and your Rights
Most people will come into contact with traffic laws or the police at some point in their lives. This seminar helps you understand your rights and responsibilities in those situations. We’ll look at common traffic offences and penalties, including driving with excess blood alcohol, and what the police can and can’t require you to do on the roadside. You’ll also learn about your rights if stopped or searched by police, what makes an arrest lawful, and the specific rights of young people when dealing with police.
Tenancy Law
This seminar covers your rights and responsibilities as a tenant, and obligations of the Landlord under the Residential Tenancies Act. We cover what needs to be included in a tenancy agreement, different types of tenancies, bond, rent, inspections, ending a tenancy early, discrimination, the tenancy tribunal and much more. We also cover what your options are if you encounter problems with your landlord.
Harmful Digital Communications
This seminar explores the Harmful Digital Communications Act and how it protects people from online bullying, harassment, and abuse. We’ll cover what counts as a harmful digital communication, how you can make a complaint, the role of NetSafe, and what legal steps you can take if you are targeted. This seminar aims to inform and ensure everyone has the practical and legal tools to keep yourself and others safe online.
